November the 19th saw us host our Investment Forum, it brought together some of the brightest minds in tech investment alongside some key community leaders to share their vast insight on the rise of no code in tech investment.

Our Speakers

This event was a phenomenal success thanks to the giant personalities that contributed, these were;

 -      Helen Oldham. A founding board member of North Invest, a group of angel investors that specialise entirely in technological advances. Helen has a keen eye for start-up gold dust and has been part of bring through some fantastic MVP’s in her time with the northern powerhouse backed investment group.

-      Will Schaffer of Mercia, a proactive, specialist asset manager focused on supporting regional businesses to achieve their growth aspirations. They have a keen eye for tech and know what it takes to make it off the ground.

-      Ed Prior. One of only 2 UK natives on the discussion panel, Ed is a Tech Investment Banker at GP Bullhound, a leading technology advisory and investment firm with deep expertise in all things tech.

-      Christian Peverelli. The first of two community influencers we were joined by, Founder of We Are No Code. A pillar of the no code community dedicated to empowering non-technical founders and businesses with no-code technology and education.

-      Lacey Kesler. Our very own podcaster and no code community leader. Lacey has been running Women in No Code for the last 5 months so has a real affinity for the possibilities that no code holds.

Why Here? Why Now?

No code is on the rise, albeit not a new innovation. It is only now starting to interest society. Lacey made the interesting point that only 1% of the world can code. The other 99% have their wings clipped and have their creativity stifled, for a society to evolve we need literacy, code literacy. We are starting to see the growth of ‘citizen developers’, these are people outside the IT department that are able to solve problems and create solutions for problems that they face every day. Increasing the code literacy percentage in society.

These are some of reasons why we are seeing more and more software applications being developed, in less time. “It is spreading like wildfire” Lacey is seeing the community thrive with the introduction and adoption of no code tools.

How does No Code attract investment attention?

Helen states that fact that at North Invest they haven’t had chance to invest in a fully no code solution, where they have seen the technology take hold is with the development of MVPs. She says they have been part of multiple projects that have utilised no code in order to build a preliminary offering to showcase value and usefulness.

Our panel are unanimous in this understanding, they overwhelmingly agree that MVP’s are made quicker, more agile and more at a much more affordable rate. The benefits here are enormous, for investment houses they can immediately see it in action and see the value it can bring to users. They also have a hand in refining the solution and improving the base MVP with testing. The benefits for the start-up are that they have spent hundreds, compared with thousands on showcasing investors potential value, it also allows them to be more reactive and relevant to the market, which traditional development inhibits.

“If you don’t have that strong customer base, then it’s a lot harder to sell your product” Will Schaffer tells us exactly how much easier it is to get investment in your start-up with no code. No code grants the ability to play, for the entire ecosystem, rather than just the one or two in the dev team. Which harbours creativity and removes the barrier for adoption when moving into investment stage.
