No Code Super Hack
Our second No Code Lab hack took off with a bang this year, tailored to Leeds-based businesses, charities, and not-for-profits. Bringing together ten teams battling it out with ten no-code experts, focused on automating processes, creating an app, or just developing something that makes their lives a whole lot easier.
This year’s Super Hack ran as part of the Climb23 innovation and investment festival and was part-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The hack kicked off at 8:30 am. After an introduction from our co-founders Zandra Moore and Georgia Halston, our teams dived straight into building their no-code solutions.
Ageless Innovations
No code Ninja, Richard Eaton , who can design and build projects in weeks using Bubble's no-code development tool worked alongside Next-Up. Next-Up supports employers with a range of services for directors, partners, and employees to help them understand the impact of retirement on mental health and create a plan to use their skills and experience in new ways to ensure well-being.
Their solution was aimed at helping people in retirement to analyse their skills and find out what type of volunteering opportunities might suit them.
Watts up Doc
The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust worked alongside Hark. Hark is an award-winning Energy Analytics and Industrial IoT company based in Leeds. Known for their innovative technology in their subscription cloud platform they created an MVP for the NHS Estates & Facilities Managers
Their innovative asset performance and energy monitoring solution aims to reduce downtime in surgical theatres and sustainability agendas.
Smarties
Smart Works a charity in Leeds joined the Super Hack and was paired up with Nina Taylor, a SmartSuite Certified Consultant who is on a mission to change lives by getting individuals and teams to work smarter.
Smart Works is dedicated to supporting women from a range of different backgrounds and age groups back into employment by providing coaching, so they feel more confident and start believing in their own ability to succeed.
Their solution was focused on creating a volunteer onboarding programme to revolutionise the way they bring new volunteers into their community and book their volunteering days.
Dolphin Chronicles
Our next team consisted of Brewin Dolphin and Toca, who were in it to win it this year. Brewin Dolphin helps people across the UK and Ireland plan and shape their financial futures by protecting, growing and managing their money. Whilst Toca is a no-code enterprise development platform that allows organisations to rapidly build digital veneers on top of existing systems and processes.
Dolphin Chronicles created a platform to enable charities to advertise volunteering opportunities to multiple different companies to create collaborative, networking volunteering experiences.
Crack the Hack
Joining forces, VisiMedia who focuses on systems and processes, to reduce waste, increase profitability and streamline organisations, worked alongside Addleshaw Goddard a law practice based here in Leeds. At Addleshaw Goddard their lawyers find imaginative solutions to pivotal business problems for many of the world's most respected businesses.
Crack the Hack developed an innovative solution to the problems of hybrid working (isolation, loss of team cohesion, siloed working) to enable colleagues to work more collaboratively, build better connections, and improve well-being.
Funding In A Nutshell (F.I.N)
Sentio Partners, experts in corporate finance teamed up with Nutshell Apps, a no code solution designed to build and deploy custom business applications, digital forms and automated workflows.
Sentio Partners were looking for a solution to democratise information for founders when raising external funds from investors. Raising capital is a long and complex process, and they developed a readily available toolkit for early-stage businesses. The app will help bridge the information gap for underserved entrepreneurs and contribute to a more diverse and inclusive start-up ecosystem.
Data Divas
Three of Leeds' data champions came together to form one team to create an MVP for the Leeds Digital Ecosystem! Data Divas consisted of:
The Data City, whose mission is to map the UK’s emerging economy, provides researchers, policymakers and investors with real-time data on dynamic sectors and the companies within them.
Open Innovations, is a not-for-profit, independent, mission-led, radically open organisation. They work in the open with sponsors, companies, organisations, governments and individuals to use data to innovate and help people make better decisions
Panintelligence, is a three-in-one single solution, that combines BI with intuitive reporting and predictive analytics.
Together they created an inclusive growth data dashboard to highlight disparities between female and male-run businesses in Leeds. Investors can use the dashboard to make better-informed decisions and highlight female-founded businesses.
Map ‘n’ Cheese
Next up, our team Map ‘n’ Cheese brought Accessed Memory and Generation together.
Accessed Memory are two friendly, local, and somewhat opinionated data scientists specialising in the most current algorithms who joined us AGAIN for the Super Hack! Whilst Generation transforms education into employment systems to prepare, place, and support people into life-changing careers that would otherwise be inaccessible. They have a methodology that they believe can serve hundreds of thousands—and eventually, millions—of people who are unemployed, underemployed, or need to learn new skills. Their program creates real business value for employers and a lasting career impact for participants.
Their solution featured an interactive map linking the locations of learners, referral partners and employers. The map could be used internally to draw conclusions about where best to focus our outreach and partnerships work.
Llamazing
BJSS who were ready and raring to go for round two of the No Code Hack, delivers high-quality, world-class technology solutions to the world’s leading companies, bringing Startup Sherpas idea to life. Startup Sherpas is a collective of amazing people striving to help teens learn the skills of innovation and entrepreneurship through real-life work experiences.
Their innovative MVP featured an automated system to allow parents, schools, and businesses to safeguard children in work experience.
Reel Time
Last, but certainly not least, the Super Hack saw TechOrigin and Erised working together. Tech Origin brings insight and predictions on emerging tech, whilst Erised is passionate about working with people who want to build, test, and iterate fast - a perfect match for the Super Hack.
Together this duo created a digital portal that allows tech/digital start-ups to easily upload their own video to the TechOrigin YouTube channel and gain free PR for their brand via our site. The portal is flexible, allowing start-ups to create their own branded video as well as a TechOrigin video, giving them free marketing materials to use elsewhere.
Super Hack Winners
Not only were our teams set with the task of creating the most innovative MVP, but we also set challenges throughout the day, which included a quiz around Leeds and no code. A run-down of the Super Hack winners were:
